The Best Australian Labels for Everyday Wear

They are your favourite labels, they are in your wardrobe already. Probably doing the heavy lifting and getting worn on repeat. The best Australian labels for everyday wear are the ones you reach for without thinking: you’re favourite shirts, that throw on knit, and the denim that feels like it’s part of you. At The Tartan Fox in Bright, VIC, I've been hand-picking pieces from brands such as POL Clothing, LMND, Staple the Label, Nude Lucy, and Nobody Denim, to name a few. They are affordable, they are great quality and they have the ability to blend into your wardrobe seamlessly.

Staple the Label Harlow Oversize Zip Cardigan Grey Marle

Staple the Label has long been a store favourite. In fact we’ve been selling the brand since the day we opened, nearly 13 years ago.

This is a label that has managed to stay true to it’s roots and move with it’s clientele. In essence it’s developed with classic styling in mind but with a focus on real wearability. It nods to the latest trends but doesn’t let the range be dictated by it. A broad market following, staple has a mother/daughter type of appeal. A range that is known for that nice top you’re always after or a beautiful dress, but has great denim pieces too.

Nude Lucy Brax Denim Jacket and Jeans in Espresso

Nude Lucy is a brand on everyone’s lips. It has gone from barry basic to soaring high on the Australian Fashion landscape. When we first were introduced to this brand i almost said no. The name to me was quite unappealing. However it sold. Our younger clients loved it and over time this label has matured. it has lifted it’s game in quality so much that it is barely recognizable as that same brand. Nude Lucy is known for great basics such as tee’s and jeans but it’s monthly drops are full of trend driven silhouettes and colours. Suiting has become a huge seller for them, giving it’s younger cohort access to incredible pieces at affordable prices. Styles that can be worn to work just as easily as it can out to dinner.

Nobody Denim Sasha Jean

Nobody Denim has been around for quite some time, since 1999. At it’s roots this is a denim brand that was manufactured in Melbourne using ethical practices and transparent production. It is now made off shore but the ethos is still the same. Quality, Organic denim, ethically made and still at an affordable price. Denim is a core piece of your wardrobe and buying good denim that lasts is essential but it’s a bit like bras and bathers. It can be really hard to find your exact fit. Nobody has a great range of styles from skinny to wide, high waist to a little lower. Dark denim to sun bleached blues. We haven’t found a style we don’t love and quite often we have found that they are great for that stage of life where things start to change. Forgiving waistlines that don’t make you feel like constricted. Our favourite styles at the moment the Sasha Jean and the Nadia, a new barrel leg style that just about suits everyone and great for those that have a bit of booty! ;)

POL Anise Top in Pebble

POL Clothing is in our eyes one of the best Australian Labels going around. A long-standing stockist of the brand we have been selling out of POL styles for roughly a decade. It just seems to hit the mark every time. Known originally for fantastic knitwear the founder Sam has launched this brand to new heights, now it’s known for great going out tops, fabulously fitting pants and the ultimate garden wedding dresses. So everything basically. I have so many pieces of POL in my wardrobe I could dress myself for weeks just from this one label. So why so good? Great fabrics, beautiful prints, realistic cuts, fits that have real women in mind and what we actually wear from day to day. Clothing that you can actually go to work in, feel comfortable in and wear again and again. I find this brand to be unfussy, but not in a way that makes it boring. There is always a little twist to a basic style but it never feels over the top or inhibiting. The use of quality natural fibres is also a real draw card for this brand. Pure cottons, silk, wool, angora, blends of all 4, the list goes on. I would say this is a label for grown women who still want cool factor. They know who they are, they want style, they want comfort and they want quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best Australian labels for everyday wear?

Look for labels that combine natural fabrics with relaxed cuts. POL Clothing, Staple the Label, Kinney, LMND and Nobody Denim all design for daily life rather than occasions. The test is simple: can you wear it to work, the school run and dinner without changing? Pieces like the POL Mast Tee ($129) or the Staple the Label Lisara Oversized Shirt ($129) pass that test because they are cut for comfort and styled for versatility.

How do I style denim for everyday outfits?

Start with a straight or relaxed leg in a dark wash and treat it as your base. Pair it with an oversized shirt like the POL Botanica Patch Camp Shirt ($159) tucked at the front, or layer the Staple the Label Harlow Zip Cardigan ($95) over a plain tee. Add a statement shoe and a structured bag. The goal is one relaxed piece plus one tailored piece so the outfit looks considered, not thrown together.

Which Australian labels offer the best quality denim?

Nobody Denim is the name to know. The label has been making denim in Melbourne for decades and is known for durable construction and fits that hold their shape. For everyday wear, a mid-to-high rise straight leg in a dark indigo is the most versatile choice. Pair it with a relaxed shirt or a knit, and you have a base that works across seasons and dress codes.
